Is this Russian girl scamming me? How to recognize scammers

Are you an American or Western European man exchanging emails with a girl from Russia? I was contacted by a girl who turned out to be a scammer. Reader Derrick put together some great advice how to detect scammers.
I only have one advice (#8) to add: If a Russian girl tells you that she will get a visa to the USA instead of inviting you, that is - under the current immigration law - a SURE sign that SHE LIES.

Here is the process how a Russian woman can come to the USA:

If she is considered a relatively young/ attractive woman (let's say under 40, hope I don't hurt anyone's feelings here), then there is virtually NO CHANCE THAT SHE GETS A TOURIST VISA TO THE USA. First the Russian Federation will not allow her to leave the country. Then, even if she was getting out, the USA will deny her admission. The reasoning is that she is considered a risk. How could she not be a risk? If she had family in Russia (husband, children) or a valuable business or real estate. Most likely the woman who writes you will be considered a risk. The only way for her to get a visa into the USA is this procedure:

  1. the foreign man visits her in her native area in Russia
  2. they get engaged during such a visit - take photos of the 2 of you together
  3. he flies back and applies for a K-1 visa. A K-1 visa is also known as Fiancee visa, used for marriage-based immigration
  4. once the K1 visa is granted, the girl can enter the USA and stay there for 3 months. By the end of these 3 months you HAVE to GET MARRIED or the girl has to go back home.
  5. if you get married, the girl gets a greencard and can work
  6. after 3 years of marriage, the girl can apply for a US citizenship. That's when they interview you to find out if it's a real marriage. She also has to answer some questions about US history, political system, etc etc.

Here are Derrick's tricks (1-7) that he uses immediately from the start:
  1. GOOGLE or websearch the first part of the scammers first emails and/or 'profile'. SEE HOW MANY OTHER SITES their listed on! RECORD THOSE SITES FOR FUTURE REFERENCE. THAT alone can give you a good idea IF your dealing with a scammer OR not.
  2. GOOGLE or websearch the return email address. See how many 'hits' come from that search and also note all the sites. (many times you'll see the email end up on a 'scammers list') IF YOU FIND THE EMAIL ADDRESS LISTED ON A SCAMMER LIST - don't bother further, your only fooling yourself - no matter what excuse they might give you.
  3. FROM THE START - ASK FOR SPECIFIC INFOMATION! A full name, address, phone number - something. OFFER THE SAME in exchange, except make it a P.O. box and a CELL PHONE rental card that will protect your identity. If you see your requests ignored, which you usually will, don't waste your time further.
  4. ALWAYS ASK SPECIFIC QUESTIONS that would REQUIRE A SPECIFIC ANSWER outside the use of FORM LETTERS. IF YOU FIND your questions go unaddress in your reply emails from 'them/her' - YOUR DEALING WITH A SCAMMER. Again, don't bother further.
  5. DON'T WAIT 6 MONTHS to offer to talk with the PROSPECT by phone! WHAT A TOTAL WASTE OF TIME! IF THERE IS CHEMISTRY OR APPEARS 'INTEREST' BETWEEN THE TWO OF YOU - then sieze the opportunity. ARRANGE A PHONE CALL! International rates to Russia and most places are reasonably cheap. IF YOU GET THE REPLY ' I'M SO POOR I DON'T HAVE ACCESS TO A PHONE' - drop the whole thing, your only wasting your time and WILL BE SCAMMED at some point in the future.

ASK FOR A SPECIAL PHOTO TO BE TAKEN. IF YOU SENT YOURS, HAVE THEM TAKE A PHOTO SHOWING THEM HOLDING UP YOUR PHOTO IN THE PICTURE! That is a good 'scammer filter' - even the most adept with Photoshop will easily be spoted.

AT THE LEAST - ASK THEM FOR A PHOTO of them wearing a specific combination of clothes and/or colors - something different then the usual 'model clothing' - most use to send out. OR AN OBJECT - TOASTER, ELECTRIC CLOCK, BY A COUCH, IN A ROCKING CHAIR something that would be very hard to use PHOTOSHOP to just PUT in another FILE PHOTO.

*** IF this person is real or sincere, they won't mind doing this for you! ALSO - offer to do the same for their comfort also - that is only fair.
  8. If she talks about getting a visa or that she needs money to get a travel visa to the USA, she lies. See the proper course of action described at the top.

And anyone else that is interested.

My name is Marvin Cecil Gonzalez. My Friends and I have lots of posting on this Delphifaq site. Particularly in 5 different pages that deal with our beloved scammer(s).

I am going to copy and paste notes from my Ynotepad some links to help you track, trace, verify, and investigate your beloved.

If this 411 seems redundant, that's because it is . . .

Lots of pleas for help.

Feel free to contact me for further assistance.

I truly will welcome that and I will help in anyway that I can.

But please know too, that I am dedicated to the capture and/kill of MY beloved scammer - Vicktoriya Makarova, and the entity that she represents.

But first - about the Yummy above posted by TONY at from Australia. . .

She is a scammer. One of my team members is in contact with her now. If you follow the 411 that I am going to copy/paste, you will see the same pic.

SO. . .Without furthur blah, blah, blah. . .

Please See, On Website -
> Outside of the Cube > Dating Scams > 1 - 5 below:

1. 'Dating Scammer Vicktoriya ( From Russia'
2. 'Dating Scammer From Tomsk, Russia'
3. 'Is This Russian Girl Scamming Me? How To Recognize Scammers'
4. 'Dating Scammer Angela from Russia'
5. 'Humorous ideas how to deal with Russian dating scammers'

These pages deal mostly with my beloved in some way shape and/or form but you will see familiar stuff, I am sure. . .

Even if you do not, read the pages anyway, there are useful tips and links to guide you in your quest for the truth.

And now, for the meat -

You can simply plug 'Your Beloved' into the Delphi Search Window and then click the red button with the white arrow and it will show the page links you will need to check out.

Again, I strongly suggest reading these pages in their entirety and make sure to use the links as they should become a part of your appendage.

Follow the advice and instruction and you will be just fine.

Lots of tools and much 411 to help and direct you.

Scammer Investigate 101:

This bit-o-knowledge came from this page on this site. . .
I mean it fellas, read these pages in their entirety. . .

1. Google/Yahoo the 1st part of scammer email ( and dating profile if you have it ), as well as any profile/user name.

Also, G/Y quotes in her email and dating profile ( use quotation marks ).

See the # of sites that pop up and note those sites - check them out and follow any links ( as well as advice and opinion ).

2. Google/Yahoo her 'Return Mail' address.

This can be found in the headers of any email.

See the # of sites that come up, note those sites and check them out.

Follow the links, advice and opinion within.

Most of the time, if she is a scammer, she will be posted on at least one scammer website.

You will also need to trace her IP address ( aka IP # ).

This can also be located within all email headers.

* Other Items to seek out within the headers and traced IPs are:

The headers > look for commercial email software ( clients ) such as X - Mailer and
X - Y:mailer,

and also look for mass mailing programs such as 'The Bat!', 'FC' 2000', 'Becky' and 'CommuniGate Pro'. . .Even business mail software as Outlook and Outlook Express.

Note that they are getting away from these and are useing programs that allow them to hide.

As for the traced IPs > look for the Host, Country, ISP.

At least one of the IPs should be from the same location as our beloved.

Note also the time your scammer email was sent and received. Know her time zone.

Also, since they are hiding by simply using proxys, this particular step may be a waste of time - but ch'ya never know. . .do it anyway cuz some scammers are not as smart as others (but they are smart).

3. To open the 'Full Headers' on your email, email me for instructs or click 'help' in your email page. You can also play around in 'options'.

4. Ask for specific information - full name, home and business address, home-cell-business phone #s, and the like.

Legitimate women will gladly offer this and even be flattered.

Offer the same using a p.o. box #, a cell phone rental card and the like for your I.D. protection.

5. Always ask in each letter, at least 1 - 2 specific questions that require answers outside of a form letter such as; grandparents name and location, where did the scammer get their education, and other stuff like that.

6. Ask for phone contact a.s.a.p. once you are into a relationship with your woman rather than waiting for her to offer or suggest it.

This is often the next major step just before the 'money' request letter.

Note all phone #s on your caller I.D. if and when she calls. More than likely the #s are from a phonebooth or calling card.

7. If a serious love connection ( it happens - only a few are scammers, most are not ), have them delete all other web profiles that they have posted.

Offer to do the same.

Check up on that using tips #1 and #2 above.

8. If she need $$$ for visa/passport or for any other travel concerns - NO! ! !

YOU GO TO HER! Legitimate women ( and their families ) would welcome this.

9. If she asks for $$$ for passport/visa, tell her that the U.S. Government requires a pix of such in order to send a Money Gramm or Western Union if the amount of $$$ is over $XXX amount.

Suggest an even amount just under what she is asking for.

Learn about U.S and her home country passport/visa/immigration law and requirements.

To veryify the validity of documents log on U.S. Embassy Website in her country.

I.E. for Russian women you would go to

10. Photos. . .

This almost requires a section or page of its own. . .

If she looks like a bodel and /or her pix appear professional - yet she claims to be poor with little or no money - something's amiss.

Make-overs/professional pix are not cheap here in the U.S. let alone Russia or some other foriegn country.

Most likely the photos were bought or stolen and otherwise used in this fashion without subject knowledge and/or approval.

Ask for a specific/special photo ( ask for 2 - 3 of them really ).

Some will comply but this is usually at the cost of the scammer - an 'out of pocket' business expense for them.

Ask for a photo of them holding a current newspaper of your choice or one from their home country, etc.

Make sure that THEY MAKE SURE that the dates and such are readable - No blurry or fuzzy pix acceptable.

Ask for a specific style of clothing combination such as color and style - no 'typical' model clothes such as swimsuits form fitting attire, etc.

Ask for hair to be put worn in a certain fashion - i.e. pony tail or pigtails and the like.

Have a picture of them taken where they are standing next to something specific or holding something specific, or at a specific location. Research ( google/yahoo 411 about their city).

Offer to do the same.

NOTE :::
- This site helps trace ( for free ) the EXIP Data ( picture 411)
- Downloading and Plug-ins ( and some time ) is involved but it is 100% free to use.
- Yes, photos are tracable.

About nudies - face and other identifiable marks are usually fuzzy and/or hidden is some way.

Some websites for your 411 and instruction so that you can effectively and efficiently investigate/verify - Passport/Visa, IPs, ISPs, Domain Names, Host Names, Pictures Sent:
for U.S. Visa/Passport and Immigration
Also, go to her countries embassy website and find out that same 411.

To open full headers, for IP trace instructs and to trace email sender see:

and to verify IPs and e-dresses:
put IP or e-dress in 'IP. . .Look Up' window

This one allows you to copy-paste the entire header for full e-sender disclosure
- deals with tracing/investigating
- deals with more detailed trace/tracking
- same thing and chock full of 411.
- Traces/tracks and other email options such as retractable AND self-destructing emails.
Hey - the scammers use these thing - you do it too.
- Free translation of foriegn language into english and english in to foriegn language.
Yes - scammers use this stuff too.
Not every scammer knows enough english to communicate with. w/ whois search options.
- Traces Domains (,, and the like) and IP addresses.
- Traces photo EXIP Data ( picture 411).

Other things to do:

Find out about the customs, mannerisms, and other social status 411 and behaviors of your international woman.

Contact the Dating/Community/JobSearch websites that your scammer contacted you from.

Post on the Various Scam Sites:
Just Yahoo/Google 'Dating Scams', 'Romance Scams' and the like. . .
' > Outside the Cube > Dating Scams '. . .is a good place to start.

Investigate any E-flower/gift shops or any other business that these scammers send you too.

Well Gents, here's another scammer to beware of. She calls herself (if she is actually a female!) Mariya Shubenkina from Yoshkar Ola. I've seen the name on another scammer site but with a couple different photos. I was bummed out. She sounded like a sweet girl during the couple months that we exchanged emails. Of course she wants to come be with me but cannot afford it and needs my help financially. I got suspicious when she didn't want me to call her on the phone. Too bad these women are not legitimate. They are real hotties and would have no problem getting a man to treat them like a queen. And they call us men dogs! What these wenches won't do for a dollar!

To the poster above regarding Tatyana Aleksandrova and Elena Malygina...

Which one is the girl in the photo? One is the girl and the other the travel agent?

It sounds like a variation of the visa/ticket money scam mentioned here :0(

Take a look at the photos/letters/comments on the site for Anastasiya Evdokimova (but look at half-way down the page) which is on this site to compare what you have received from her.

Take care,

well, there's some good advice. all i've sent were a couple of burned cd's and a souvenir shop necklace made of stainless steel and paua, so no risk so far. hope i dont end up finding out i got fooled, cos' i'm a hopeless romantic. i'd already asked for a photo of her wearing the necklace anyway, before i saw this site, so if she sends me that, maybe it's alright. I'd like to think so. cheers
