Find the provider of a cell phone number

Question: How can I determine which provider is behind a certain cell phone number?
Answer: You could just call that number and ask the owner. Or you could listen to the voice mail announcement and compare it to those that you know.
Or you could use this web site http://www.reversephonedirectory.com/ and try a reverse search.
That site will tell you that they did not find a (people) listing for your phone number but they will tell you something like the text below (better than nothing)
UPDATE:
I found today this site: http://fonefinder.net/
I ran it on my own cell phone number and I really liked their (accurate) output.
 | | | | The phone number "(xxx) xxx-xxxx" is a Salinas, CA
based phone number and the registered carrier is Cellco Partnership
Dba Verizon Wireless - Ca.
However, due to number portability, some numbers have been transferred to
a new service provider other than the registered carrier. | | | | |

Hi,
May be you can try the below website, as I got my American friend's unlisted phone number via the site:
http://www.fonereco..okups.php
I was using her name and address to find her phone number, but you can also search using telephone, cellular or wireless phone number or SSN records.
Go check it out your phone number now, and see what you can find..:) GOOD Luck!

Phone calls made on my current service providers tarriff are free for 100mins worth of calls, per month, providing they are to phones within that providers network. Is it possible to tell from the code of a number, if it is within my network?
